With a rise in cable-knit sweaters, commonly purchased from Brandy Melville and Ralph Lauren, some students’ favorite winter outfits have returned to classic prep-school styles. A resurgence of leg warmers paired with UGG slippers and boots has also reentered Holton’s halls.
From wearing slippers to minis to Tamzins, students certainly help keep UGG in business! Charlotte Hendricks ’28 said she wished “UGG would bring their tall styles back.” Other students have taken to fleece jackets in navy blue or white as a stylish addition to their uniforms. Parke sweatshirts have also become increasingly popular on Friday free dress.
Many students anticipated the day back from Thanksgiving, when they started wearing their sweatpants (navy and unbranded only, of course) without fear of receiving strikes. Sweatpants season has always been a source of celebration for the student body. The rule relaxation provides a form of comfort in the cold winter months, when students are typically busy and may feel overworked.
This fall, an online forum known as DC Urban Moms had much to say about the skirt lengths and "messy" uniform code of Holton. As a result, will more students wear leggings as a reaction to the backlash, or will they continue with their beloved sweatpants? Alyssa Sambur ’28 commented that she plans to “continue wearing [her] sweatpants” because she prioritizes “dressing for comfort.”
