Brooke Depelteau shared what a typical day in her life looks like as she begins her journey as the new head of Upper School.
Depelteau wakes up between 5:30 am and 6 am. She greets her two dogs, her two cats, her 11-year-old son, and her husband, who makes her a vanilla latte each morning. While getting ready, she often listens to books on tape, a reflection of her multitasking tendencies. Depelteau is “terrified of traffic,” so she leaves her house around 6:45 am to arrive at school between 7:00 am and 7:15 am. She then uses the quiet time to get centered for the day.
Depelteau enjoys the “consistent inconsistency” of her job. Her day is filled with both expected and unexpected meetings and conversations with adults and students. One favorite part of her day is when students pop into her office to chat. She values positive interactions and a human-cen- tered approach to school.
If there are no evening events, Depelteau remains at school for one to two more hours following dismissal before she returns home. Similar to her morning, Depelteau takes plea- sure in the quiet environment.
In the evening, Depelteau walks her dogs and talks with her son and husband about their days. She also checks on her other son, who is at boarding school, through FaceTime. Depelteau and her family like to cook dinner appetizer-style; their current go-to is melon and prosciutto.
On the weekends, Depelteau enjoys eating out and trying different restaurants in Maryland and DC. She also loves attending concerts. Her favorite artist is Bob Dylan, who was the first musician she saw in concert. Along with Dylan, she enjoys seeing Zac Brown Band, Dave Matthews Band and Pink in concert, the last arguably the best show in her recent memory.
To wind down before bed, Depelteau watches TV with her family. She enjoys a wide variety of movies and shows, including “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” She was originally team Jeremiah, but she now is team Conrad! Most recently, she introduced her son to the “Pitch Perfect” series.
Because of her early wake-up time, Depelteau tries to go to sleep between 9 pm and 10 pm. This bedtime routine allows her to get enough rest and wake up ready for another day.
